I’m Cynthia Moore, published author and playwright. I’m convinced growing up on Woodward Road, a street away from the oldest resident repertory theatre in the country (Hedgerow Theatre), helped fuel my love of plays. Being related to an 18th century playwright may have influenced me as well. My sixth great-grandfather was John Leacock, the first playwright to have George Washington appear as a character in a play.

An expanding love of the theater prompted a move to NYC when I was twenty-three years old. I had earned a bachelor’s degree in English from Penn State and I was ready for a new adventure. Once settled, I wrote three plays (Carnivale, Entitled, and Toil) which were performed at various theaters on 42nd street.

Eventually, I shifted my focus and began helping others with their writing. I worked with underserved high school students and decided to pursue a degree in teaching. In two years, I earned a master’s degree from Columbia University and I spent a decade working in higher education.

During that time, I joined the Daughters of the American Revolution. I not only socialized with the other women of the DAR, I also worked with them. For several years, I chaired the literacy committee for the New York City Chapter; and, in 2016, I wrote an article about my experience with the organization for Town & Country.

Along with my interest in art and literacy, I also have a passion for exploration. I’m fortunate enough to have traveled the world; I have visited countries in Europe, Asia, and Africa. I’ve also been exploring beneath the ocean’s surface, as a certified scuba diver, for over twenty years. Diving, like traveling, is so important for gaining a better understanding of what’s outside our own little world. This natural curiosity has helped me become a more well-rounded person and an even better writer.

If I’m home, and not reading or writing, I’m most likely working in the garden or creating plant-based meals in the kitchen.

Thanks for visiting my new website!

Hello!
